Agonda Beach: Why it's a favourite in South Goa
Goa is always a good idea. But to select the ideal place to stay can be bit of a challenge. Selecting between North and South Goa depends on your age and peer group and the activities you are planning to indulge in. However there are the popular spots and the ones for the offbeat travellers. Don't get me wrong, I love Goa in its entire length and breadth, be it the riverfront or backwaters, bustling Baga or calm Ashwem. But for spending more than a couple of nights, I highly recommend Agonda, and here's why.
Hailing from North India, Goa might not be an annual ritual but I have been 4 times in my 36 years of life and have explored it quite extensively, if not fully. I have stayed in Colva, Baga, Candolim, Calangute and Agonda. After weighing all pros and cons, Agonda has been my favourite place to stay so far.
1. It's spectacularly scenic.
The Agonda beach with its hills and boulders on both sides remind me of Patong beach everytime. Tall coconut trees bending their necks over the Arabian sea make such a cherishable sight. The waves are high and the sand is buttery soft. The less commercialization on the beach makes it cleaner and more peaceful. If you are staying in South Goa, doesn't it already mean that you want to stay away from the madness of the North? It better be peaceful in a beautiful way!
2. It's commercialised on a perfect level.
I am not looking to cook although that sounds good too) while on a vacation so I need clean,, delicious yet affordable dining options wherever I decide to stay. Agonda Beach has just the right number of shacks and eateries. It's not as heavily commercialised like Palolem, but not as sparse as Mandrem or Ashwem beach. There are a plenty of small store for daily essentials, plenty of nice shacks and restaurants and cafes and souvenir shops too. And you can indulge in all types of water sports, without bumping into other adventure junkies.
3. Affordable yet nice accommodation.
Finding an ideal accomodation in any tourist place can be extremely challenging, especially if you are on a tight budget. You want to have a good experience but can't spend too much. Agonda Beach has excellent beach accommodations starting 5000 INR per night. I loved where we stayed in Agonda. Will share in the coming post.
Are you a North or South Goa person? Which is your favourite place to stay in South Goa? Let me know!
