MAYA BAY
As I continue my Thai Odyssey, the adventure which I want to share today is probably the highlight of the trip!! When we planned to go to Phuket, one of the things that attracted me most was Maya Bay. Yes, the very place where Hollywood blockbuster ' The Beach ' starring Leonardo Di Caprio was shot!! Maya bay has always been listed as one of the best beaches of the world; and I was able to understand why after I payed a visit myself!!
Our bookings had been done from India itself. Our cab picked us up at about 7 in the morning and dropped us off at Rassada Pier. From there we boarded a yacht and our awesome cruise began.
The early morning sun was shining in full glory and made the crystal clear waters of the Andaman Sea even more beautiful. We could see limestone cliffs here and there on the way; a speciality of Andaman Sea. It took about an hour an half before we reached Phi Phi ley island, the one with the famous maya Bay.
As we approached the island, the colour of the water beneath turned aquamarine as well as clear!! It was so clear that we could see the marine life underneath. It was the perfect place for snorkelling!!
The beach i.e the Maya Bay was between two huge limestone cliffs. The scenery was simply mesmerising.
Now comes a bit scary adventure part. I and my hubby had never snorkelled before in true sense. We are good swimmers and love the sea, but this thing was new to us. It required us to jump from our yacht into the deep water with the equipment. Hubby had one more problem..what to do with his glasses??
Gathering all my courage, I put on my equipment and slowly entered the sea. At first I struggled with breathing; gradually I got accustomed. When I could breath freely, I looked inside the water for the first time. Goodness gracious!! I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life before. Fishes of all sizes in all colours, sea horses, starfish and all kinds of corals. Could God have been more creative?? I had never seen so many colours in one frame in my life before!!
We snorkelled for about an hour. We tried to hold hands while swimming but it was not feasible as it seemed. Then it was time to move on. Our captain gave us the signal to come back. We were not in a mood to leave the paradise. But as schedule was fixed, it was time to move on to the next island. It was one absolutely amazing experience of our lives.
